  • Large Wooden Pergola and Thermo-Wood Terrace in Benahavís, Marbella

Just before the start of summer, we completed an exciting outdoor living project for our client in Benahavís, Marbella. The project included the construction of a 140 m² bespoke wooden pergola together with a 140 m² thermo-wood terrace, creating a beautiful and functional outdoor entertainment space.

Now that the client has completed the furniture, decoration, and final finishing touches, we returned to the property to take some photographs. We are delighted to share the finished result with you.

    A Challenging Bespoke Project

This was a technically demanding project. The pergola had to be seamlessly connected to the existing concrete villa, while the new terrace had to be installed on uneven ground with multiple height differences. To achieve a perfect finish, we designed and built the decking on several different levels, following the natural terrain.

Every bespoke project starts with careful planning. We first visited the property to take precise measurements of the entire area. These measurements allowed us to create detailed production drawings, ensuring that every component would fit perfectly with the existing villa. Before manufacturing began, we carried out a second site visit to double-check every measurement and confirm that everything matched our plans.

    Heavy-Duty Glulam Timber Construction

The pergola was manufactured using extra-heavy 200 × 200 mm glulam timber, providing exceptional strength, stability, and durability. Glulam timber is significantly stronger than traditional solid timber and is ideal for large-span structures such as this one.

For the roof construction, we installed 30 mm thick timber roof boards, followed by OSB boards to create a stronger and more stable roof surface. This additional layer helps prevent movement and bending of the timber during hot summer temperatures. Finally, the entire roof was covered with a self-adhesive waterproof roofing felt, creating a completely weatherproof canopy that can be enjoyed throughout the year.

    Luxury Thermo-Wood Decking

The second part of the project was the installation of a 140 m² thermo-wood terrace.

Thermo wood is an excellent choice for outdoor decking thanks to its outstanding durability, dimensional stability, and elegant appearance. Its warm natural colour gives the outdoor area a luxurious finish while requiring minimal maintenance.

The client also chose to paint selected parts of the pergola in anthracite grey, creating a stylish contrast with the warm tones of the thermo wood. The combination perfectly complements the modern architecture of the villa.

Two Weeks from Start to Finish

Including construction and painting, the entire project was completed in just two weeks.

Today, this impressive outdoor space includes:

    • A fully covered outdoor bar
    • A lounge and relaxation area
    • A BBQ and outdoor kitchen zone
    • A spacious dining area
    • A darts and entertainment corner

The result is a versatile outdoor living area designed for entertaining family and friends in complete comfort. Thanks to the wonderful climate of the Costa del Sol, the owners can enjoy this space during almost every month of the year.

We are proud of the final result and would like to thank our client for trusting us with this fantastic project.
